It is so good to catch up with the "Platinum" friends in our lives, isn't it? I have friends in AZ-they moved away 19 yrs ago, saw them at Thanksgiving and the friendship is still as deep-so lucky you and lucky me-we have the kind of friendships few people ever know...
Two posts I made today-the first from Moxie Fab World that I put on my FB status-so very true and so very hard to do. Have I run through the people I love's lives and not trampled them?? I know that I have `and I need to be more conscious of this fact.
I also have so very special "platinum" friends-even more precious that gold. I am so grateful for those people who grace my life with their love and companionship-even long distance companionship.
I hope to get some layouts done tomorrow-I have so many pictures I want to scrap!!

My wish is for peace on earth this coming year-there is too much fighting in the world and if only we could bring our sons and daughters home, we would be able to take care of this country and the problems we face. Let's start using our wealth and resources to enrich the lives of our own citizens instead of trying to be the worlds policmen/fixers of everyone else's problems. Enough is enough I say-lets just take care of the issues we face as a nation and get our own houses in order. I pray that we remember what our nation was founded on and return to the guiding principles of our Founding Fathers (and MOTHERS) and use their wisdom to do good and care for each other.
I plan to spend a quiet evening at home with my hubby and at midnight shoot a hole in the sky for good luck to rain down on us in the new year; and also at midnight hang our three wisemen card over our entry door so the wisemen bring us what we need for the coming year.
God bless us everyone and may there truly be peace on earth....

The day before the day before Christmas

Merry day before the day before Christmas! I hope you all got more done for Christmas than I did LOL!!! My intentions are always good but somehow the time slips by and most of my projects remain undone. I know what one of my new year's resolutions is going to be. Today I will probably finish wrapping and and get everything packed up for our quick trip to the grandchildren's for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. One year I would just like to have a quiet Christmas where we didn't have to run here and there. But I guess that is what Christmas is all about...
I have a request to make if anyone reads this post. My daughter in law was diagnosed with a cystadenoma of the ovary yesterday-her doctor says there is only a small (15%) chance that it is cancerous. But it is very large (15 cm) and so she has to have surgery to have it removed. Of course we are all very concerned and praying that it is NOT cancer and that everything goes well and that she does not have to have her other ovary removed. So if you could say a little prayer today for her that the surgeons hands are skilled and that the biopsy shows no malignancy.
I will probably not be writing again till the beginning of next week, so

My Husbands surgery results

Just in case anyone who left me kind messages checks the blog- My hubby's surgery went really well-He had immediate relief of the back pain and slept the night after the surgery for the first time in a year. It is now 6 months and there is still some residual problems-some pain down his right leg, but nothing like he was before. He is now laid off-his plant shut down and he lost his job the end of September. He is enjoying the time off after 39 years of working, but I think we are going to need him to work a little while longer. But it is nice having him home-(after a period of adjustment LOL if you know what I mean!!) The laser surgery is definitely the way to go-1/4 inch incision as opposed to a 6 inch scar like I have!!

I promise with the new year to start up my blog again-I would love to use it as a place to put my cards and layouts. And as my journal of sorts-though I keep a journal of my own. My blog has been neglected for many months. Life has a way of getting in the way!!

the surgery we expected to happen tomorrow has been cancelled-then rescheduled for next Friday-we were on the road when we got the call last eve-the drs. contract with the hospital had been dropped effective immediately. They reconsidered today and allowed the doctor to do the surgeries already scheduled. Otherwise they were going to fly us to Dallas to the main center. So we have a little longer to wait.
I was hoping to get hopping on getting this blog set up for my creations soon-but I just don't have the time or the energy to figure out how to get the colors and pretty thing on here like all the other blogs so I am just going to wit till my head is in a better place.

On my way to Dayton Ohio to take my husband to the Spine Institute for laser surgery. He is in tremendous pain and I can't wait for him to have this procedure so he can get some relief. We are traveling today partway instead of trying to drive the 5+ hours all in one day and make his appointment by 3 tomorrow afternoon. So we will take off after lunch and drive and stop frequently for him to get out of the car. We will find a hotel later on and get some rest for the rest of the trip Wed morning. When this is all over I will be dedicated to making my blog a card and scrap place-and maybe even enter some contests! I will be back Friday evening --- till then I wish everyone a peaceful day...

I am looking out the window at the rain-it seems as if May has become April, if you know what I mean...I wanted to work on the yard and pull some weeds from the back flower bed, so I'll have to see now what the rest of the day looks like. At least it feels a little warmer outside-it has been so cold this week! We are getting company tonight, it seems weird to say that because we never get company! Anyway I am going to make a batch of buns and hopefully we will be able to roast hot dogs over the fire tonight. I put together a couple pages that I will post as soon as my hubby brings my camera home(it's in the car he has at work!!).
Miles surgery is next Thursday and it can't come too soon...he is having a harder and harder time just getting through the day-and I feel so helpless that I can't do anything for him. More later on today-I WILL post my layouts and a couple cards-I am excited to try to do this as I have never done it before!!

Thursday thoughts

Waking up to a beautiful morning after a night of thunderstorms. I love storms at night when one is laying in bed listening to the sounds of the thunder and listening to the rain taping on the window-the smell of a spring shower is like nothing else!! I have to take my mom in law to her appointment this afternoon. I don't know what the orthopedic dr is going to do for her back-I have a bad feeling nothing can be done-her pain is pretty intense, and of course she really has no pain pills and probably doesn't want any either. I planted the pansies yesterday and cleaned up the shade garden bed and the sunny garden bed. I have to still do the bulb bed and the herb bed (and get some more herbs as they were all destroyed last year putting in the new drain pipe :o( Last eve we put the 24 cabbage plants in the ground and the creeping phlox, so everything got a nice drink overnight. I also made a page last night during the night so I am yawning right now. Whats sleep when you can scrap LOL!! I'll be back later...

Thanks to Kim !! It's finally a rainy day here in western PA. April has been very dry-not a good omen for the coming garden season-we have a little of the garden planted-not much because my planter(hubby)is still in pain with his back, but hopefully by Monday we will hear about his surgery date and he will get some relief and life will be back to normal(whatever normal is!!) Craig's funeral is today so we are going to have a very sad day ahead-May God bless his children and his mom and give them peace.

National Scrapbook Day and a Memorial for a Friend

I am hoping to complete a page about myself today as the beginning of the story of Me. I really want to get a special album together for my girls to have when I am no longer with them. I know I may sound morbid, but in the past couple weeks I lost my mom and then my husband lost his best friend on Thursday. Craig was only 53-too young to be taken home, but God had other ideas. Craig was a kind and honorable man. He was the first person to welcome me into the community when I first met my husband to be in 2002; his real grace came from his ability to make you feel like were important to him. He never minced words and he told you straight up how it was-blunt and honest and you always knew where you stood with him. Craig worked hard, played hard and in everything he did he gave his all.And he left this life as I am sure he would have wanted-standing tall and walking into the unknown with his head up and his shoulders squared to the task. God welcomed a strong and brave and true angel into his heavenly home on April 29 at 10 am. I will miss shooting the apples from the tops of the cans on the front porch with you Craig. You are one of the special ones that only come to this earth once in a while-you will be remembered always by your friends Tom and Diane. We love you....

It was a beautiful spring day today-Sunny and cool and very windy. Miles stayed home today because he had a terrible night-neither one of us slept very much-his back has him just about at the end of his rope-he has to have a stress test Thursday and then see the cardiologist next Wednesday-and so no surgery can be scheduled till then-I don't know how much longer he can take it.I wish I could take his pain away. We got in the hot tub for a while this afternoon, and it is the only time he gets relief-even the pills aren't doing anything.
I sent 8 cards to Aimee-she wanted some to give to friends and she has suggested to me that I need to get busy selling them. So I have to start investigating how I want to do that. I know if I could get a little business going it would help with expenses when Miles plant closes in July-I still can't believe he won't be working there ever again-it is going to be devastating to him.

I came to my girls on Friday, just for some r&r. It has been so good for me! Somehow the stresses of the day seem to disappear when I visit with them. We laugh and carry on and have plain fun. Still a caretaker

I thought now that Mama is gone, my caretaker skills might become a bit rusty. I should have known better thank to think I was going to have a quiet morning catching up on all the scrapbooking blogs...My mother-in-law Laura, called at 6 am; she was having a nosebleed, and she couldn't get it stopped. So I hopped in the truck (since I told Miles to take the car as I wasn't going anywhere), and got to her house in record time I think. She had a kleenex to her nose and I started the pressure and also put the ice packs on her upper bridge and back of neck...In a little while, the bleeding subsided, and the crisis averted. I stayed until the store opened and went and got her a couple things she needed, and some groceries for myself(mainly kitty food, treats, and litter!!). I got home about 9:30 and talked a while with Mary Ann. Then Steph called to tell me she was denied SS. I is so disappointing especially since she had legal representation this time, whom I thought would be able to help her navigate the system. Tomorrow is going to be another caretaking day with Lana-tests and Dr. appt,; also filling out her taxes. more later...

Spring has come!

Looking outside today, all I could see were leaves in the flower beds and leaves and branches under the pine trees...So I got out the rake and went at it!! Raked all but one flower bed and under all the pine trees out front. It was good exercise for me and the smell of the spring air was so refreshing to me. The rain that was supposed to come today held off-we only had a couple sprinkles this morning. The work has begun; since Miles is limited right now, I have to pick up the slack and at least try to get the yard looking somewhat decent. And I got a good start today!!

Yesterday was my mom's memorial service-it was truly the most beautiful service I have ever witnessed-all my siblings paid tribute to mama, and Pastor Bill and Pastor Rowe both gave touching eulogies. My brother Jim sang "How Great Thou Art", Rita read 2 poems, Rick had a great eulogy on "He wept", Lana thanked everyone for coming to mom's service, Dawn spoke and read from the Daily Word for March 25(from Revelations) and I spoke and read from 1 Corinthians- the Love passage.
I am missing my mother's voice, her phone calls, my visits with her... I miss how she was when she was healthy and whole. We had many, many pictures on posters, Jim made a DVD with pictures and music. All the grandchildren were there except Jolene(who had surgery on Tuesday but managed to get as far as Butler and couldn't come because she was so sick) and Melanie who started out from S. Carolina but had to turn around because her back was so bad...
My sister Dawn and I made the food(Dawn did most of it) and it was excellent. The brothers and sisters gathered in the sanctuary after and read the love letters Dad wrote to Mom--she gave them to me about 18 months ago and told me when she was gone we were to get together and read them. They are from 1944 and 1945 and they are truly precious...
Now my life has to go on without my mothers presence and wisdom-I don't know how I am going to manage; she was such an integral part of my life in so very many ways, especially the last few years-I grew closer and closer to my mom the older I have gotten and I wanted more time with her.
Miles and I planted 2 rows of vegetables this evening; he told me he thinks Virginia spoke directly to our Lord and asked him to give Miles a day without pain; because today was the best day he has had for a long time. We will hopefully be able to schedule his surgery after Wednesday and we are praying that it will take away his pain.

I have not been on this blog for 2 months now-I just was so caught up with my mom-and now she has passed away Thursday March 25 at 9:45 PM I have been in a fog since then-not able to concentrate etc...I am going to have time now to get some of my creations up on my website-which I have been wanting to do for a long time-enter some contests and such...

Another snowstorm

Yes, since yesterday afternoon we go about 10 inches of snow-nothing like the nation's capital though-the mid Atlantic was getting pounded 2-3 feet of snow-wish we had gotten that-I'd like to be snowed in for a while.

February feelings

One month gone from 2010 already!! Time has a way of passing by. The past week has been very eventful. Last Wednesday we learned that Miles' plant is going to shut down-no later than July 1; but more likely sooner. So we readjust our minds and plans for the future. We really do have everything we need. If we get to live our lives on the farm, we will both be happy; I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be.

Today I remember my sister's birthday-we are closest in age of all my siblings and I guess we are closer in spirit too. We slept together growing up and fought every night over how much of the bed each of us commandeered!!We would draw a line down the middle and would yell if the other crossed it Mom always dressed us in the same outfits (that she made)-just different colors. We were one year apart in school-but light years apart in personality-I was the introvert, the bookworm; she was the extrovert, the cheerleader and basketball player.She had lots of friends; I had very few.
Happy Birthday to my dear sister-Parents made us sisters; love has made us friends.

I remember where I come from, I remember those who have gone before me and the example they have been to me, I remember the friendships I had in the past and in the present. I remember the love of my husband and the vows we exchanged on our wedding day. I remember that I promised to respect, love and cherish him.

I've posted all the kitties pictures except Chigger. Here she is-Chigger is Mile's kitty-she knows when he's coming home 15 minutes before he arrives-she is at the door waiting for him to pick her up and take her outside to sniff around; when he isn't feeling good she is right beside him; she sleeps next to him at night.
I went to Mom's care team meeting yesterday-I guess she has been crying a lot when we are not there-so we are going to try an antidepressent(though the last time she was on one she was a zombie) I hope it lifts her mood somewhat because she can't make progress when she is crying during therapy. I went to therapy with her and she stood (with assistance) for about 45 seconds. I just don't know how much strength she is going to be able to recover...the one home we were hoping for turned her down because she has a wound that is seeping clear fluid-I was so discouraged. I hope we are able to find a good place for her close to Jim so he doesn't have to drive far to be with her. And I know her depression is because she knows she can't go home and that is all she wants to be able to do...It is breaking my heart.

A new week

A new week to get something accomplished; plan to bring Lana and Steph to see Grandma at hospital; meeting tomorrow with Mama's care team, and lawyer appointment in afternoon. Went to see Mom yesterday and she looks good, but wanting to go home, which she cannot do...if only I could keep her, but I would not be able to care for her like she needs.

This is Rosa and her brother Domino; they found their way to our house two summers ago, and we found them in our basement. Of course we had to give them a home. They are good kitties! Rosa is very chubby; I think it's because she remembers when she didn't have food so she wants to make sure she isn't without it now!!

One more kitty picture to post tomorrow-Chigger, who was found at the end of the driveway 5 years ago and became Miles kitty for sure.More about her tomorrow.

Saturday is for playing!!

Yes I want to play today!!! I have NCAA basketball on TV(waiting for football playoffs to start) and I can sit at my desk an play with paper! I am working on some older pics of my girls when they were young, also some of mom and dad and Gram Sherwin too. What memories come rushing back when you work with old photos. It is an awesome thing-memories are what keep you going sometimes.

This is Spuddie-he is the newest addition to my kitty children-his previous mom was my sister-she has Alzheimers and when we finally had to place her in assisted living she could only take one of her kitties with her-so my hubby volunteered us to care for him. (#6!!) He has adjusted very well to the family and he has a wonderful personality. Yes I know we are certainly nuts- I never intended to have this many kitties but somehow it happened. I guess there is a sign at the end of the driveway that says-good home this way!!

Yay!!!The weather is supposed to start warming up in the next few days-the temperature trend is the 40's for the next ten days! A welcome relief
I took Miles to the dr again today-he was so exhausted from coughing last night he couldn't even go to work, so we went and he got x -rays and medicine-I surely hope the night will be kind to him and he will be able to sleep without the horrendous cough.
I also went to see Mama-she was eating when I got there-cleaned up her whole tray-she looks incredibly good considering all she has been through. Her wounds are actually healing fairly well.

This is my second oldest kitty-Idaho is 15 years old.She was my daughter's until she moved and then she became mine-she has been with me through thick and thin too-she was lost outside once for about 5 weeks-I thought she was gone-then found under the trailer I was living in-I think it definitely traumatized her for good-she has some issues but she loves to be petted.

I have to see my sister Lana soon-her friend is gone for 2 weeks and she is going to be lost without Alice to take her around to things at the assisted living home. Also have to bring my Steph her and also have to go see my Aimee too. If the weather is warmer for a bit I will get this done.

I was on the phone practically all day yesterday-I am trying to find a placement for Mom in nursing home-I refuse to put her some crappy place, I need divine intervention in this situation.

This is my senior kittie, Taliesin; he will be 17 in April...he has been with me through many, many travels and has been my faithful companion. He is deaf now, but he still jumps up on the back of the couch, plays sometimes and is in fairly good health, except he is very skinny now.
I got out some of my old photo albums and chose 3 sets of pictures to scrap-I am going to start my heritage books with my children, family, and memories. I am also working on Moms album, and I want to start the one with Dad's pictures in too.

Where did last week go? I am amazed at how life passes by so quickly especially the older we get.
Yesterday I went to see Mama at the TCC unit at the hospital. When I left I got on the interstate as I always do and only when I got close to my exit did I remember the road was closed from the exit before mine and my exit!!!!! Yes I was stuck in traffic (3 miles) for 3 1/2 hours, as every vehicle had to exit the road and travel a little road to the next exit. Yes I am absolutely crazee
Thank God for my friend Mary Ann who kept me company by phone for well over half the time. I think I would have panicked for sure. As it was, I just kept kicking myself.

I haven't put any pages together in a while, I have been making cards instead; so today I plan to do a few scrapbook pages. I just love playing with paper, why is that? Just touching, smelling, looking at the different papers makes me happy. I know it sounds crazee, but there you have it! I will get my room set up soon, but I'm afraid when it's set up, I will never come out of it!

Good morning!! A busy day ahead-ready to clean house from top to bottom. Also going to visit Laura for a bit this morning. I've been neglecting her lately since mom has been in the hospital..Still snowing here in western PA. And snow in the forecast for the next week!!
Too bad the Steelers aren't in th playoffs. Football isn't anything important without the "Stillers".Time to start watching college basketball and Penguin hockey.
On Christmas I had Miles take the coffee I ordered and asked him to put it in the freezer downstairs. Well lo and behold when I went to get it out 2 days ago, it was not there. Miles has no idea where it is. I am beside myself!!! He said I hope I didn't throw it away...oh my heavens I cannot believe he has no clue where it is...I learned my lesson with this for sure.
I've been making some really cool cards lately. Can't wait to post some of them. I have gotten some really great paper lately, I would love to spend my day at my table making things. I want to get a couple mini albums together.
But first cleaning!!!

Mighty Monday

Another Monday morning, getting Miles off to work, and preparing to make a ton of phone calls to try to get Mama back to the local hospital for better care. I hope I am successful.
I made 2 cards this morning and I have to get to Aimee's so she can help me set up my blog, and teach me how to upload my creations.
The kitties were running around the house this morning...they must have a bug up their tails!!
I slept most of yesterday, my cold seemed to reassert itself and so the sleep was needed. I feel some better this am, hope the worst is behind me.
Temps are cold and the snow is still flurrying..
I lit my Yankee Candle votive Sparkling Snow this morning...It smells terrific!! love the Yankee Candles!

Snowy Saturday!

Early morning and the snow glistens under the moonglow outside the window. Up early to get lunch packed for Miles...We went to see Mom yesterday-we didn't stay a long time since the roads were to get bad and we timed it pretty well-the roads were starting to be nasty by the time we pulled into our driveway--we were grateful to be home safe and sound.
Mom looked pretty good all things considered. I read to her from the "Daily Pizza" (other wise known as the Daily Word) and we read scripture and prayed together. I know Mama clings to her faith in the midst of this trial but I have had my doubts recently. How can a just God allow people to suffer, people who have been faithful to Him their whole lives? Are we just praying to the thin air? Is everything just a crap shoot? I just hope we can get mama closer to us next week so I can see her every day again.
I talked the "kitty talk" to her too--she asked how they were doing and I said they tried to jump into the car to come see her and they said to tell her "Meouwy New Year!"
So today I will watch some bowl games... can't believe that football is almost over again for another year. I want to print some pics and get a couple pages put together too. Maybe get a little cleaning done-Miles said he would hang some pictures that have been waiting for forever to be put up-Yeah!!! I do want to go see Laura for a bit too-we have been neglecting her because of being caught up with mom, and we need to spend an hour or so with her today.
A really cold spell is forecast for the next few days, a good time to snuggle in with a good book. I need to loose myself in one for a while. That's about it for now, more to come. Peace to this world.

New Years Eve!!

Can you believe today is the last day of 2009!? In a way (even though I do not wish my life away) I am glad to see 2009 go...2010 has to be a less stressful year!! Of course that is what I say every year...does it seem to you that the older you get the more complicated life gets; I always thought it was the other way around. I guess this is one of the wisdom things you acquire as the years pass.

Tonight is the BLUE MOON , (you saw me standin alone...without a dream in my heart...without a love of my own..) How fitting for it to be the second moon of the month and coming as the decade turns...a portent of the wonders to come in the next decade.

The snow continues to fall this morning, yesterday we had a little break from it, but there is, falling so gently as I look out the kitchen window in the predawn hours.

So do I try to make resolutions this year? I guess I will at least list a few promises I hope I can keep in the coming year:
1 Practice the attitude of gratitude
2 Get my creative room put together
3 Develop and implement business idea and plan

4 Stop smoking
5 Create something every day

Well an ambitious plan...I hope to be successful. There are many more things I intend to do this year, but I don't want to overload the list!!!

Snowy Tuesday

Tuesday morning...as I look out my snow covered window all I see is a vista of white,,,as far as my eyes can see the fields and driveways are mounds of untouched snow. It is beautiful!! But somehow I have to try to get out to take my sister (who has Alzheimer's) to a doctor appointment. And she lives 40 minutes away from me. Plus I have come down with the cold, cough and sore throat that has been making its way everywhere this winter. So I have a dilemma...what do I do? Life is never easy, even the smallest things require one to wrestle with decisions...
And I haven't been to see Mom since Christmas day, so a trip is necessary for her sake today or tomorrow too. And all I really want to do is curl up on the couch and sleep.
I uploaded my christmas pictures and am thinking about scrapbook pages of my girls and of the grandchildren. I gave away a lot of my stash of cards for Christmas presents too, so my supply needs to be replenished also. There is where I really want to be today...lost in the creative world of my paper, pens, glue, embellishments and pictures.

Merry Christmas to everyone...after a very busy day of driving(again!!) I am finally home and able to relax a bit. Dinner with my girls was wonderful...makes me remember how much I enjoy their company.
Went to see Mama at the hospital-took Lana and Stephanie-and Mama surely does smile when she sees Lana-Lana smiles back and Mama's love for her special daughter comes shining through. It does my heart good to see them together-both of them with their problems and yet love speaks loudest there.
Not much else to say...I guess we will be going to Carlisle to see the grandchildren tomorrow-if I couldjust say to Miles you go by yourself I would. But I probably won't do that-even though I am always on the outside looking in (not my grandchildren by blood) I still do love them a lot.

Merry Christmas Eve!

What a day Yesterday! I got a phone call at 9 am saying the doctor was ready to transfer mom to an acute care facility!!There went my holiday shopping plans. She is 1 1/2 hrs away now-so we spent the day taking care of all that had to be done...mom was so sad...it was so hard to take her and watch er try to reconcile to being far from us...she was asking for us to bring her things from home...and my heart was breaking
Thank God that my Miles stayed by my side all day...he was a trooper...it was all I wanted for Christmas-his support for that day.
So in the midst of all this craziness, we found the grandchildren each a special present-a step stool for Spencer9(at the Hardwood Mall) and a Nativity globe music box for Camryn(at the hospital gift shop!!)
We are going to pick up Lana and travel to my daughter Aimee's for Christmas Eve dinner-Miles says he's not eating all day because if she is as good a cook as me he will want to chow down on a lot of food!!

Tuesday afternoon

I am typing in blue since I am having a blue Christmas...Mama was sad cause she said everyone is asking her what shes getting for Christmas...now I don't know if maybe she was dreaming this, but I had to remind her what Christmas is really all about and when I come on Christmas we will sing happy birthday to Jesus.
Another day and no shopping...I hope tomorrow I will get the few things that I planned to pick up...not much spirit in me but I must try...my craft table has kept me sane through the last few months...and sometimes I can't even sit there, my mind won't free itself of worry.

I am up and at it at 4am...husband off to work and me off to hospital...maybe I will get some Christmas shopping done today-have daughters and grandchildren to think of...After the holidays I will spend some time setting up my blog with pictures, cards etc.

So here it is 4 days till Christmas-I think I'll write a story called "The Year Christmas Passed Me By" I promise to start adding my cards to the site as soon as I figure out how to do it!! I spent 2+ hours at the hospital today and my mother just slept-then when I got home I heard from the social worker that she was very sad-so I called and spoke to her and she said she missed me-so my trip was useless because she was sleeping the whole time-from now on I will make sure she is awake and knows I am there. I felt terrible.
